⚗️ Course Description

• This course focuses on the interplay between law, public policy, and technology, specifically exploring the impact and evolution of free speech, privacy, and content liability in the context of emerging technologies like social media, generative AI, and mixed reality. To thoroughly understand this complex field, the course will adopt an interdisciplinary approach, drawing on insights from law, computer science, humanities, and social sciences, and will analyze relevant policies from various countries, including the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), AI Act, Digital Services Act, Germany's Network Enforcement Act, and the UK's Online Safety Bill. By studying these policies, we will develop the ability to critically evaluate policy options relevant to the US tech industry, such as the proposed reforms to Section 230 and the Texas HB 20.
• This course is a graduate-style seminar, exploring various exciting subjects at the intersection of technology, law, policy, and society. The class will be a mixture of readings, expert lectures,and individual advising.
